This belief will not be without battle. The old evil enemy will evermore try to bring us into doubt. If, of course, he succeeds in doing this, half the battle is won for him.
The text word declares unto us the great love God has for us. Out of His love for fallen man, God gave His only begotten Son. For us He was cursed and endured much pain and suffering. Yes, even unto death did He suffer for us. “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:4-5.
Even if we are aware of all this, sometimes we still doubt? Many think that God has forsaken them when they are in sickness or in disaster, war zone, or in bad luck. Apostle Paul, “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.” 1 Corinthians 15:19.
Our hope and belief go further than material or natural things. It goes further, yes, further even than death. For in our text word it is written, “that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” The answer is “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:35, 38-39.
God’s love is greater than all the dark powers and this belief in us gives us the power we require to overcome all that is in the world.
We, therefore, cannot become weary or anguished. Should this be, we must always think of these words, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31.
