Our text clearly tells us that we should praise the Lord for His creative powers and acknowledge that He is the creator of all things. We must never use this as we tend to do, in past tense. We know that God did create the earth and everything therein, but He did not then stop creating. He creates on day by day.
His creation continues and it is under His creative hand where we see that those things created in the beginning continue in this day. He created earth out of the oceans of the world: that still continues in parts of the world. At the mouths of rivers where the soil comes down there is new land created. In the oceans atolls appear that were never there before. He is our Creator today. We look into the forests, we see the trees; they do not die out when they have lived their life, but new trees come. We see the fruit trees bearing fruit, it continues day by day. The cattle continue to have calves, and humans continue to be blessed with the creation of children. We must never look upon this as a past tense. That is why this praise must go unto the Almighty God every day of our life, for we witness His creation.
This was verified by God as He created these things. Verse 6 – ‘He hath also stablished them for ever and ever: he hath made a decree which shall not pass.’ What was that decree that He made that would continue to bring about this creation for ever and ever in our times? If we read the Creation story in the Book of Genesis we will see that after each section of the creation He always then said, ‘And God saw that it was good.‘ He saw that it was good. If God sees something that is good, it is for ever and ever because God’s words are true, they cannot ever be faulted. As He put into place this creation at the beginning, He always saw that it was good.
When it came to the creation of mankind we read a different decree that He gave at that time. It is important for us to understand why it is different and what prompted Him to decree something different. We find that He created Adam, and out of Adam – Eve, Genesis 1: 2 ‘So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. ‘
We see when He created mankind, and gave this creation unto mankind, it was not just good, it was very good. Therein we have to question ourselves. Why did God have to say that it was very good? Everything that God makes is good. He does not have to pat Himself on the back and say that – It is very good. What was He referring to? It was a prophecy. It was a prophecy for the future, but it was also an acknowledgement at that time, that Adam and Eve when they were presented with this creation that had day and night and everything therein, they chose to be creatures of the day. They chose to live in the light and not be creatures of the darkness, and that was in God’s mind why He said – ‘It was very good.’ We today have to be sure that we also remain in the light. Remember the light at the beginning was our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. ‘Let there be light,’ God said, ‘And there was light.‘ The sun and the moon came later. We have to walk in the light of Christ, and if we walk in that light then in God’s promise or His decree, that is very good.
