We no longer look back to Zion, the mountain of Jerusalem, where David once resided, where the temple stood which the Lord Jesus often visited. Rather we look up to the Jerusalem and the Mount Zion of the new covenant, The Church. (Hebrews 12:22-23) But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, just what is the blessing that issued forth from the Zion of today? The bountiful supportive and gifts of God: such as grace, the word Given by the spirit, the angel’s service.
When we grasp these blessings that emanate from Zion (Church) and employ the potency contained in them, then our prayers will be fervent and filled with substance, and the striving toward the kingdom of God will retain first place in our hearts. Therefore, it is easy, despite varied difficulties, to trust the Lord in a childlike manner, bring our Thanks and offerings to him and to bow in obedience of faith under his exalted will. From obedience there will always come forth blessings; from disobedience, the curse. This godly decree was already brought to the attention of the people of the old covenant by Moses (Deuteronomy 11: 26-28) Behold I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other Gods, which ye have not known.
Let us always be thankful: we have been called in the new covenant and given the means to inherit the blessing (1-Peter 1:9-10) Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the GRACE that should come unto you:
And what is “the good of Jerusalem” of the new covenant?
– The election for eternity.
– A joyous, living faith and soul stirring vitality.
– A total confidence in God, through Christ
– To be filled with the treasure of godly thoughts.
– To partake in the first resurrection – the most exalted goal!
Such genuine “good” makes us spiritually rich, and toward such riches we want to continue to strive. (Hebrews 11:10) “For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
