We see therein very clearly that this spiritual city came from heaven meaning that it is God who will construct this not man. We see very clearly the angel said come and I will show you the bride of the lamb adorned as a bride which shows very clearly that in this life we know that a bride goes to no end of trouble to prepare herself for her wedding day. It shows clearly unto us that there is a preparation in our life, we have to prepare ourselves so that we can be as our Lord who is the bridegroom of our soul and this preparation is provided for us through the church which is often referred to as new Jerusalem through the working of the Holy Spirit and that is why we must allow this spirit to come within our lives and make this preparation so that we can be part of this living city.
The means to this preparation is through the gift of Grace given freely to all in faith. Acts 15: 11. “But we believe that through the Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved.” The means of this Grace is entrusted to the Church to distribute according to God’s order. John saw the city and he saw the light thereof, the brilliant light like unto precious stones meaning he could not describe it for we know that Christ is the light of this city and he mentioned two stones there, Jasper and clear as crystal.
Crystal in those days was considered by the people to be water that had become petrified and we can see once again the preparation through the water of baptism, we see when we look at crystal it has to be clear we have to be able to see through it and we have to have the church also clear. The church must be crystal clear in the world, there must be no confusion. People must be able to look at it and see through it and see the blessings of God. There must be no darkness, it must not be hidden, it must be on display for all to see.  Remembering that the Church is the living body of believing souls, not a building or organisation
1 Cor. 3: 16.  “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you.”
The jasper stone in those days was a stone that was used for two things, it was used to make a seal so that kings and men of authority could use it to place their seal on documents. So we see that God also seals those into this golden city and he seals it as we already understand we are sealed by the laying on of hands of living Apostles and we are then sealed into this golden city and we can then be recognised as being owned by God. The other use for jasper was it was made into cylinders and it was carved and those cylinders were the instructions and the law of the day and they were dipped into ink and they were rolled out so line by line the instructions came. That is the power of the Holy Spirit, it will lead us in all truth day by day, line by line in God’s plan and if we allow this Holy Spirit to work within this city we will hold no fear of what is happening in the world for we will find stability in following God’s teachings. And the final thing with jasper was, that when it was held up to the light it could be seen through and behind it could be seen a blue haze and as they looked up to the sun with it, it was clear on the front and it had a blue haze behind which shows us very clearly that all the teachings and all the blessings that come to this spiritual city come from the heavens, come from the Almighty God where He has sent into the church His living Spirit, the Holy Ghost to complete this work.
It is sad to see in the world today, the fulfillment of Christ’s revelation (Revelation 8:12) that a third part of the stars would lose their light, meaning that a large part of the ministry in the world is no longer teaching heavenly truths but have replaced it with man’s teaching. Let us always pray that the Holy Spirit as the Lord of the harvest will continue this work in this spiritual temple on which foundations for us were laid on that day, on the day of Pentecost.
