This event, recorded in the Holy Bible, is a most vivid example of a man called to serve God and displays the Grace of Christ. By the conversion of Saul, who was a Jew from the Tribe of Benjamin, and also a Roman citizen from his father who was a Pharisee, he also, because of this became a Pharisee and persecuted the followers of Jesus in Jerusalem and Judea. It is shown that God chooses who He will to serve Him.
We should note the Lords words, “why persecutest thou Me?” Saul was persecuting Christians, so if we persecute members of the church, in Jesus eyes we are persecuting Him. Saul, who would later be known as Apostle Paul, would go on to write more than half of what is contained in the New Testament.
God showed that no matter what our history and past beliefs are, at His will we are capable of serving Him in many ways.
Apostle Paul would go to Damascus as instructed and there he waited. A disciple by the name of Ananias was told by the Lord to seek out Saul in the street which is called Straight. Ananias hesitated because Saul had persecuted the Christians, but the Lord told him that Saul was a vessel chosen by Him to take His name before the Gentiles and kings, and the children of Israel.
When Ananias found Saul, he put his hands on him and told him that Jesus had sent him to him that he might regain his sight and be filled with the Holy Ghost. Saul received his sight again and was baptized, and immediately went into the synagogues preaching that Jesus is the son of God. This preaching offended many of the Jews and they made plans to kill him, but the disciples helped him escape.
Paul (as he was re-named) met with the other Apostles in Jerusalem three years later and told them what had happened to him and then began his preaching in Tarsus and the surrounding area. The Holy Ghost was his teacher.
