Clay is earth, one may also call earth mud or dirt. Some say to each other ‘you are just dirt.’ Some say to themselves ‘I am no good, my life is as dirt.’ They are apathetic and devalue their lives. This world epitomizes impermanence. God made man from the earth and breathed His life into him. We are made in the image of God and God is in us, we are as earthen vessels containing the life of God. Paul said: “We have divine treasure in earthen vessels.” The earthen vessel is breakable, but the divine treasure is imperishable! What can God make of my life? Something meaningful, divine, eternal?
Clay cannot evade the potter, but man can evade God keeping certain aspects of his life hidden, he can withdraw from God. This leads to a divided way of life. Has God the influence to shake me with regards to my attitude towards work, my profession, leisure, money, illness, family, neighbours, and fellow Christians?
Every human being is unique. God gave us a shape as determined by Him. He did not make us all uniformed, He would like to awaken divine originals. Many a person is not satisfied being a simple vessel but wish to be an artistic vase made of bone china. In our houses are many different vessels and all are in use. This is what makes a community! Do we take part in our community? Are we active? Do we appreciate or despise the others? If we despise the creation, we despise the creator.
After the pot is made it is baked in the furnace, even as our lives are tested in the fire. Knowledge alone is not sufficient, does not help much, does not bring new life. We must convert knowledge into practical deeds to the benefit of our lives. The vessel made by God can be used in everyday life. God can use me.
God says: You are not a useless clod of earth; you are not dirt! You have been regenerated and have received a new meaning and direction to your life. Your life has been given intellect and you shall remain with Me!
The highest reward of being a Christian is to fulfil our divine predestination.
