Jealousy, that green eyed monster doesn’t have to be a distraction to our spiritual growth. We can learn to overcome these jealous feelings, realize our own worth in God’s eyes, and appreciate others. Learning to let go of jealous feelings in the process, we have all been tempted to envy what another person has, but if we could look at our lives from God’s perspective, jealousy would lose its power. God has chosen us. He loves each of us with an everlasting love and has a plan for our lives. (Jeremiah 31:3; “The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
He tells us we are His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10) “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” By His grace, we are what we are (1 Corinthians 15:10) “But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.” God’s plan for us may not unfold at the same time as His plans for another, rather than fretting, ‘What about me?’ our role is to be patient and wait for God, believing that He is working out for His purpose in our lives for our ultimate good and His glory.
You may have noticed that this fatal destruction, we have looked at so far, is connected and takes root in our lives when we focus on ourselves rather than on God, believing that joy comes from chasing after our own desires rather than pursuing His heart.
