Revelation 3:20
How is it possible to hear someone speak when we listen to loud music or watch a movie? It is hardly possible, especially when the one speaking, talks in a soft voice.
Likewise, this text comes to life. God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit from Heaven, but do we hear Him, and do we open the door, because the door handle is on the inside.
In Isaiah, Egypt is mentioned (the great world power in those days) who stood distraught. The plans of the mighty nation is confused by God, but still, they council with the idols! “And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst thereof; and I will destroy the counsel thereof: and they shall seek to the idols, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards.”
Likewise, we as the children of God are warned in the writing of Apostle John and he ends his first letter with it that we should shield ourselves from idols! Now, what and who are these idols?
It is the arm of flesh we build our lives upon and do our planning around. The Economy, the Government, the Analysts, the Wise men, the Employers, the Inflation rate, the Bank account, the University, the Interest rate, etc.
Trust in the Lord and let your ways be unto Him. Stay away and guard that the idols do not inflate your life.
