One of the most important aspects of Christian life is thanksgiving. In fact Christian life is
incomplete without it. It was also ordained in the Old Testament as our text states. In Malachi 3: 10
we read “Bring ye all the tithes into the store house, that there may be meat in mine house, and
prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and
pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”
Thanksgiving is symbolic of God’s love. Our hearts are filled with thankfulness when we read in
Gospel of John 3: 16 “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Jesus Christ is the living example of God’s love. Therefore He was always thankful to the
Heavenly Father, and said “Thy will be done.”
Thanksgiving inculcates the value of obedience to all the commandments of God. It is because
every little thing that we have in our life is not our own. In 1 Timothy 6: 7 we read “For we have
brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.”
We should be thankful to God’s Grace for the gift of life. How life is important for a person on the
death bed. When his relatives and friends keep on running after doctors, medicines and blood, so
that he may remain alive. We should be thankful for the Blessing of every moment of our life.
The blessings of our life are countless like happiness, peace, prosperity, wealth, health, wisdom
and above all is the love of God. All these are wonderful gifts of God and they all flow from
obedience to the commandments of God. As we draw near to God, He himself draws nearer and
enriches us with manifold Blessings.
In the end we should not make comparison that God has given so much to others but not to us. We
should always remember that God gives His blessings according to every ones needs.
Therefore we should always be thankful to God for everything that He has given us, for which we
do not deserve. In every aspect of our life we enjoy His blessings through the grace of our Lord
Jesus Christ under the guidance of the Holy Spirit who is our comforter and companion until the
end of life, when our Lord shall return. Therefore let us always offer our thanks in every act of our
life.
