The Psalmist wrote about and he encompassed everything that we should bear in mind during a time when we come before the Lord in thanksgiving and petition. He has spoken, 0 that men would give thanks unto the Almighty God -it is a plea, why do not men offer thanks to the Almighty God for the blessings that have been granted unto them and he enumerates those blessings and those blessings were not blessings for the days of the children of Israel in which the Psalmist wrote, he was speaking about the thanksgiving that should come from the church in years to come. He wrote about how everyone was wandering in the wilderness, if we care to think about that and if we think about if we had not yet received this wonderful word of God, we would be still wandering in a wilderness in the world, we would not know about the salvation and the grace of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, we would have no hope, we would not know about a life after death and we would not know about the blessings that can come from an Almighty God to whom we give thanks.
And they were drawn from the north and the south and the east and the west showing that it is a universal thanks, a universal church that was to be established one in which the blessings of God could be distributed freely and without any cost. The Psalmist speaks of how mankind had fallen into sin in such a way that he was no longer looking unto the Almighty God, he was in despair and hope, but God in His love, He answered those prayers for those who turned unto Him and asked for a way. He tells us of how the word was sent. The word was our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and that word became a living word and it was left with us and it was entrusted unto the power of the Holy Spirit and given unto man to take forth in this great commission and give people a hope in their life. It speaks of the one who broke down the gates of brass. Now we know brass is something that will not rust away, it will last the test of time, it will not rust even if it is put in salt water and those gates of brass were placed upon man when man fell into sin, for those sins remained with man, they could not be taken away, they were locked into man and man was locked out of the glory of God and the grace of God by these gates. But one came into the world who broke down those gates which was our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and He left into the world the means that we today through the power of the Holy Spirit can receive forgiveness of our sins and those gates of brass are no longer a hindrance to us in our life, that enemy of God has been taken away and that is why we should give thanks unto the Almighty God.
The Psalmist spoke about the rods of steel have been broken and rent asunder. In those days when a person was placed in a tomb and the tomb was sealed, they were sealed with these rods of steel that placed across the front so that no man could go in and no man could come out. We know our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ was placed into the tomb but it could not hold him and through the strength that was given unto Him from His Father through the power of the Holy Spirit, those rods of steel were broken away forever and the tomb was open and death no longer was the destiny of mankind for after death was life and this was the great blessing that was given unto us through the breaking down of these rods.
And at the end of all this the Psalmist then made a plea, he said that we should then come forth and sacrifice unto the Lord a sacrifice of thanksgiving for that is all that our Lord requires of us to be thankful and to give thanks unto the Almighty God for the blessings that we have received around us, for God is in all and above all. It is a small request from God, but yet so many find it difficult to do.
