If we are granted the opportunity to ask our Lord and Saviour anything, this is a question that we should answer to ourselves. If we are asked – What would you want through our Saviour? What would that answer be? Would that answer be natural or would it be spiritual? Would it be a tangible thing, would it be based upon a currency? Because brothers and sisters, fortunately or unfortunately, if we base our future, our happiness, and our blessings upon a tangible thing and also upon any currency, we are unfortunately on the wrong path, we should base our welfare, our wealth, and our health in the spirit and in what God gives us, so that the bread that we receive, that we will eat that in peace.
We receive this text in II Kings Chapter 2 verse 8-9, “And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground. And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee.” So, the prophets ask him – What do you want? What do you need? And then he gives a breath of fresh air to all of us saying the next words: And Elisha said, “I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.” We hear about the mantle and the coat he used to open the waters, and that immediately brings up the thought to all of us of the mantle that Joseph wore, the coat. All these coats, we all most probably have seen that technicoloured coat of Joseph and the song that the children sing.
Firstly, Joseph received a coat from his father, being blessed with it because he had a gift. This was a coat of blessing. Some of us today have a coat of blessing on, but sometimes it changes, and wherever we are today, and whatever coat we are wearing today, keep it and wait for God. Wait for His time to change that coat. After this coat he received from his father, he received a coat of disappointment. Some of us get disappointed and we ask questions. We are allowed to: but we come back to our Lord and say – Forgive me please Heavenly Father, because my will should not be stronger than thy will. He had a coat of disappointment. He was sold by his brothers, and he ended up working for a man which gave him a new position, and it went well, and then he got the coat of being in jail. He served the Lord with gladness. He served the Lord in a strange country and always brought homage to our Father, like we all do, and we labour. He went to jail, and in jail he was praying and praising the Lord, like sometimes we go and we receive this coat of jail, jailing we will call it, but remember praise the Lord in the hallways when the doors are shut till the doorways open. We must remember, after that he trusted in the Lord. Please note this, he trusted in the Lord. After that, the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and the Father, and the Son, because they are one, the spirit came unto him and he had the power to reveal the dream, and he was released from this jail, and God gave him a coat of sovereignty, and that was where he ended.
The coat of gold is coming to all of us, be ready for it. Have the coats when the Lord wants to bless us, keep it. Remember brothers and sisters, those who are experts at something were once a beginner. So, if we want to become an expert Apostolic Christian just begin first. And so we remember these words – God does not call the qualified: He qualifies the called, and when He calls, when we hear that voice, we should grab it, and keep it, and make it your own, and then we serve the Lord with everything we can. Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
